Port of Civitavecchia
Known since ancient times as the port of Rome, it was founded by Emperor Trajan in 108 AD as the port of Rome. For many centuries, it represented the hub of trade and contacts between the peoples of the ancient "Mare Nostrum" (Mediterranean Sea). Today, it has approximately 1,900,000 square meters of quays, 25 operational docks ranging from 100 to 400 meters in length, totaling about 13 kilometers of berths. Since 2011, it has been the leading cruise port in the Mediterranean, welcoming approximately 2.6 million passengers.
Civitavecchia Railway Station
Inaugurated on April 24, 1859, coinciding with the opening of the Rome section of the Tyrrhenian Railway, Civitavecchia station is located on the Livorno-Rome line and serves the town of Civitavecchia itself. On November 15, 1906, a connection was established between the station and the seaport of Civitavecchia, which remained active until 2000.
The station has five circulation platforms and two truncated platforms, plus a freight yard. A direct periodic connection to Rome has been active since 2011 with a dedicated fare, called Civitavecchia Express since 2019.
